My first fondant cake was really fun to make.

Camilla's 5th birthday cake. I had a ton of fun making this cake. I can't wait to work with fondant again!

Camilla is a great helper!

The most tedious part of this project was coloring all the fondant. Working together, we got it done.

The decorations were made with a Wilton mold. I had to unmold the branches and birds as they were a bit delicate. Camilla did all the flowers and most of the leaves herself. Kevin finished the leaves when Camilla got tired.

I struggled a bit with the buttercream layer. :)

If I had it to do over again, I would use commercial fondant on my first cake. This is LMF, a 50/50 mixture of homemade and prefabricated fondants. It was a little tricky to work with. As a beginner, I really didn't know what texture it needed to be to cover a cake. I think I could have rolled commercial fondant a little thinner. Ah well live and learn. :)

Camilla with her finished cake. This was truly a family project. Kevin and Camilla made this first fondant cake experience an overwhelmingly positive one for me. I enjoyed every minute of making this cake.

Not to be outdone by the ladies, Kevin had a craft project of his own that week. He made homemade modeling dough for Camilla and her sister Melina to play with. His dough conducts electricity too!

Milla's 4th birthday. I feel awful for not decorating that cake eek. It was made from scratch though! :)

Milla and her 3rd birthday cake.

Have a great day!
Mary :)
